Fuerte Ventura - Island of strong winds

Once again I am back at the sandy Canary Island of Fuerteventura, or better Fuerte Ventura... the Island of strong winds which is more than just true these days, we´ve arrived two days ago and it is really WINDY.... the first sessions I started with some stomach Problems, maybe the heat weakened me too much to hold on my 4,2 for more than 2 minutes, but when I saw all the others with their tiny little 3,.... sails i felt better somehow, even if my body still hurt and I needed my bed pretty urgent..... Today it looks a bit better and hopefully i´m ready for the wind..... FPC Lanzarote 2010

Between the 07th and the 12th of june we had our first Fanatic Pro Camp "Carve and Ride" at the Fanatic Boarders Center, Club Nathalie Simon at Costa Teguise, Lanzarote. A Spot with all different kind of conditions you can imagine, from Flatwater in the Bay to Choppy Water, swell and waves, all at one Spot, just great and so were the clients, which had come to improve their Jibes, learn Duckjibes, Jumps and Forward Loops. The week provided some perfect conditions and a no wind day for a really nice excursion over the Island of Lanzarote with its vinyards and volcanos and a big amount of great surf beaches especially in the north and north west of the Island. It has been another great week and the Event for 2011 is already planned and almost ready to be published...

Fanatic Pro Camp Soma Bay 2010

For the first time the Windsurflabor.de Crew visited Soma Bay in Egypt for another Clinic of the Fanatic Pro Camps and surely it wasn´t the last one. A great week with lots of wind between 15 and 45 knots windspeeds, a very nice and super friendly Windsurf Center, beautiful watercolours combined with easy going water surface and airtemperatures of around 34 degrees. The Planet Windsurf Center in front of the Caribbean World Resort Hotel has been a very good choice for our six days clinic, where most participants had arrived to improve their jibing skills. The 2011 Soma Bay Event is already been planned and all dates will be online here at Windsurflabor.de soon.... so far see the Fotos of the Event at the Foto part...

Marocco and cold cold Germany

Just back from Morocco. Back from the Wave Special at Moulay we just held at the Fanatic Boarderscenter at this great Wave Spot in Morocco. A week with great Windsurf Conditions and lots of very nice people, I really enjoyed this Clinic and was super happy that all participants, which came from all over Europe, improved so much during this week. Now I´m sitting in cold and rainy Germany, trying not to get too sick..... but at least i´ll leave soon again, this time egypt.... it should be a bit warmer there

and it came a little different than i thought, actually a lot different.... One week of waiting might be over as I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, with the ash clowd hopefully disappearing from the Iceland Volcano, which has stopped the entire Air Traffic over europe and caused a worldwide travel chaos. Also many of my friends and colleagues had to spend a couple of nights at various airports before airlines started slowly to fly some routes yesterday and today.... it seems that from thursday on the normal flightplans might be possible and so I also could finally leave Margarita to Europe and for my next Windsurflabor Clinics..... In the end it was all good, i missed some important dates in Europe but I am looking forward to maybe at least be at the next ones.... fingers crossed......

Yes, also i am one of the hundred thousands passengers waiting to get his flight. but at least i am stucked "home" while i am waiting and checking the web news to follow the ash clowd news and in the end to see that all Airports remain closed and possibly for longer than expected.... Hopefully the nice westwinds, which we just love once we are at the north sea for windsurfing, will help to push the huge clowd a bit faster easterly and away from central europe to finally get on that plane.... especially for those who are waiting at the airports, for days, while their families or friends are waiting .... Now we can see if we start gambling with the nature, we will possibly always loose. Now, sitting at El Yaque Beach, watching the clowds and the rain coming closer, at least I get some days to relax, since there is really no way to change the actual situation.....

Summer has come

The summer has come !! which seems to look very nice actually isn´t the best notice for the Caribbean Wind addicts. After a windy, a very windy Winter in El Yaque, which has started already last autumn and hasn´t stopped since, the summer weather might have arrived over early as well. From one day to the next the wind has gone and hot and humid weather took over, hard rainfalls started at the Venezuelan Mainland and at many latin american countries... The right time for me to leave, with my next Clinic in Morocco and Egypt coming soon... For the Wave Special in Morocco we are already fully booked, which is just great but for the Soma Bay Clinic in May there are still places available..... just check at www.windsurflabor.de for all info or contact me right away.....

It´s been almost a month now without blogging.... no holidays or failing internet connections are to blame for, only work kept me away from writing about life, wind, travel or fotos.... it have been pretty intense weeks ultimately but actually that was what i have been searching for..... plus it has been windy, very very windy in el yaque which brought me on the water with my smallest windsurfgear which I really like.... inbetween some early morning foto sessions, lots of typing on my PC and editing video..... plus some publicity for my Windsurf Clinics, which work out really well with the Fanatic Boarderscenter and the Morocco Event is already fully booked and Lanzarote almost..... (see www.windsurflabor.de) Now, during Semana Santa, which is THE Party week of the year in El Yaque i am more focused on reporting about everything at El Yaque News before going back to "normal" work. of course you can always see the latest images and whatever you like to see on this site..... while i am working on my new personal site, which will come out soon with new images, videos, reports etc......... but since i´m back to blog i´ll keep you updated, promised....

Back from Colombia

Five nice days in Colombia together with Gollito Estredo and Diony Guadagnino are behind me, with a stopover at Bogota Airport, which was a pretty freezing experience, didn´t know the City is located 2600 metres above see level.... further on to the City of Baranquilla and the Windsurf Spot of Puerto Velero, a huge Flatwater Lagoon on one side and a Wavespot on the Seaside.... very very nice place for the Sport !!! It was a very good experience, also being surrounded by very nice and kind people....

It´s always a good sign when you are tired from Windsurfing at night and surely it is a great feeling, which we lived many many times during this Season in El Yaque, in which it just keeps on blowing every single day. I derigged my Sails bigger than 5,0 already weeks ago, just no need to get them dusty in the racks. The choice I have to take now almost every day is 4,5 or 4,2 and the 5,0 on the so called non windy days.... only ultimately the choice became more, windsurf or rest ?? after weeks of daily windsurfing and training, my body just needs a rest and sometimes i even stand at the beach, watching the whitecaps but just don´t want to go on the water because i already feel every single muscle and bone of my body.... Which is great and surely i do prefer that than waiting for wind..... and soon i´ll be back on the water, maybe today ?? my body will tell me once i´m at the beach...

For the 8th time the Windsurflabor.de organized a Windsurf Clinic a tone of worlds Freestyle and Slalom Top Spots, in El Yaque at the Island of Margarita in Venezuela. Not only Cooperation Partner Planet Allsports helped by providing their Windsurf Centers and brandnew Fanatic and North Sails equipment, also the Restaurants Atti, Oasis, Fuerza 6 and Da Rocco, who served some delicious dinners for the group, the students, who arrived from the United States, Germany, Switzerland and Poland and throughout the entire week showed an immense Motivation to improve their Windsurfskills and last but not least, the windgods, which made the wind blow every single day for the 4,7 and 4,2 sails, to make this Fanatic Pro Camp 2010 a great and successful Event. The Jibe group and the Freestyle group got 4 – 5 hours of sailing each day including the tuiton and the students took their chances to improve their Jibes and Stance and to learn and understand the Forward Loop, Airjibes and Flakas, good themes to talk about at the daily Happy Hour and the following Dinner. The Event finished the 08^th of February at the Planet Allsports Center, where the Sun and Fun Sportsclub organized a happy hour followed by the Event Video Clip and the 4 Dimension Movie presentation.

I can´t believe I got already 3 months in El Yaque again, time seems to fly, maybe with the extremely hard winds we are just living this winter... juts each day it´s windy. Perfect for our first Clinic of the year which starts today at the Planet Allsport Centers. Sun, wind, beach, nice students, happy hours and nice dinners, yes it will be a very good week for all of us...

An the past two years El Yaque, my winter home, lived some pretty strange years, with lots of rain, rare winds and some boring days.... this year it seems like this would never have happened and the normal El Yaque, like I knew it before is back. Caribbean colours each day, windy and even more windy and not only in El Yaque, also our secret Spots on Macanao, the desert part of the Island or at the Porlamar City Beach it has been windy and wavy quite often... this year I would really say, good to be back in el yaque... what´s the reason fo the changes... does somebody know ?? For me it´s just great and surely also for my clients, coming to our first Fanatic Pro Camp in 2010 between the 03rd and 08th of February.

A week in 2010

The first week in 2010 is over and actually, like always, nothing has really changed. Ok, we had the first two rainy days in the entire season, I got ill for two days, which didn´t happen in 2009, but the beach is still the same, the wind still blows, the christmas crowds are still at the beach, drinking tons of alcohol and trying to make the el yaque restaurants rich. Luckily for me the year has started with a lot of work and that surely is nothing bad.... and yesterday I had my first sail in 2010... Actually it was pretty good with my Freewave 95 and the ICE 4,7, only that my body still didn´t want like my brain did after two days in bed.... and what´s up in 2010, many new Windsurflabor.de Destinations and Events, finally realising some image ideas for my Photography work and keep on pushing my new news website 1498 El Yaque News .

A big storm in the northern atlantic ocean just send us a nice Swell to the Island of Margarita. One day at the North Shore, at Playa Taguantar and Puerto Cruz and two days Windsurfing in El Yaque with waves I can´t remember to have had here at this Flatwater Freestyle Spot before. I don´t know how many hours I´ve spent on the water the past three days, but enough to get very few sleep since I had to do my work the remaining hours of the day.. but it was truly worth it...

Christmas under Palmtrees

First of all I´d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas !! and that you might enjoy those days, if you don´t like Christmas, I wish you that you´ll find your place to hide and have fun. For me that place will be on the water, even if my body starts to strike sometimes after windsurfing every single day In the past weeks, I will enjoy my Christmas Session, that´s for sure !! Hopefully I´ll get some time to rest as well after a couple of 16 – 18 hours working days, which only have been interfered by my windsurfing, which was very helpful to clear my mind, I´ll try to enjoy the Beach those days.

No, I´m no nerd, sitting hours and hours in front of my desktop, checking statistics and dates, but this year it is just fun to follow my windstatistics in El Yaque. It´s 41 days now that I´m already back in the Caribbean, only two days I haven´t sailed, half of the 39 windy days I was sailing my 5,0 Ice and even sometimes my new Newwave 76. That´s fun, I still can´t believe how taht season started, unluckily it is still very very quiet in the Village. With less flights between europe and the Island of Margarita it seems to be hard to get here... On the water of course is just fun sharing teh entire bay with maybe 8 - 9 other Windsurfers... To keep myself off the water and give my body a little rest, I just created the new El Yaque online platform 1498 el yaque news.... which should provide you all with all Info you can imagine about El Yaque, the Island of Margarita and the Wind and Kitesurf world....

sunday windy sunday.....

Sunday, a real day of sun today. Sunday also means the "domingeros" like the Sunday local people are called, invade the Beaches with their huge freezers and tons of alcohol to enjoy their day. For us it just means a bigger crowd to watch some nice Windsurf Action. Even if the wind has been a bit shaky it was well enough for the 5,4 Duke and the 95 liter Freewave and some new freestyle moves. Though the people seemed to be more intersted in their Freezers, but it´s nice to see some of them their first Windsurfing experiences... Now we´re looking forward to another windy week before we say Bienvenidos Domingeros again...

wellknown faces are back....

After a month back at home in Playa El Yaque, many many windy days, little sunburns, quite some work and tons of paperwork I started wondering what might have happened to all the wellknown faces in El Yaque, the people who came here for many years, over and over again. I had no answer but i knew it is too quiet indeed in the small Fisher Village, at least until I had to go to the Airport yesterday and saw many of those faces also arriving, very nice i thought and good to see that after one, two not so good years people still trust in their winterplace and they are right, after all the work which has been done that Windsurfer Paradise just deserved another chnace and is on a very good way now. In Venezuela it just takes a little longer sometimes, but better late than never...

I´m feeling good again in El Yaque, at the Beach and on the water, and there I´ve been much more than expected at this time of the year. The wind blows and blows and I finally got the chance to train some more Freestyle and catch one or the other Move...... Feels really good and brings Motivation back into my bones, brain and muscles....

What has it been a couple of years ago that brought me to this small Fishervillage at the Island of Margarita in the southern Caribbean Sea ? the past two years I was wondering more and more and almost really forgot the reason. Now, sitting at a Beach Terass at my second home, watching the whitecaps on the water, the Palmtrees bending and the Windsurfers flying over the water i do remember. The first two three years when I arrived to this Windsurfers Community it´s been windy almost every single day, sometimes we had to skip a couple of windsurf days because the body just couldn´t do it anymore.... and now, it all looks the same. Windy already in the early morning and all day long, so yesterday was already my first day that I decided to stay at the Beach and only watch windsurfing.... to be able practising some new Moves today.... it´s good to be back !!!

One week later...

Now it´s already one week that I arrived back in El Yaque, so I got a full week of wind, almost at least, beautiful waether, some nights out in the Shopping Center Sambil, a nice BBQ at home and a small surf session.... so far so good, couldn´t have wished more for the start of the Season, also the first clients are arriving from all over europe to enjoy the freshly built Posadas or just reconstructed Hotels..... A lot of things have been done during the Summer to male the small Village more attractive and so far everything seems to work out well and the wind also plays game. Only to the temperature I haven´t been adapted very well until now. It´s very dry and hot at the moment. What is perfect for the wind is not really the best for the Island, which is much dryer tha usually and also our freshly planted Trees and Flowers in our graden could need a bit of water sometimes. The past two days I went walking around a bit and checked the new Hotels and Posadas to see the changes to the last season and how´s everything in the Posadas I got on my Travel Website, and I was pretty impressed.. it´s been all Beautiful with nice Gardens and super clean, plus a new Restaurant and Sushi Bar...... Yaque is growing.....

Day Five at Margarita….

It´s already four full days that I am back at the Island of Margarita, in El Yaque. Actually it is really nice to see how much people worked here through the summer to make the small Fishervillage look better and better. New Bars, reconstructed Hotels, more Beach and Palm Trees. And on Top, it´s been windy for a long long time now, and so also in my first days. Four days in El Yaque this year also meant four days of Windsurfing with my new North Duke 5,4 and ICE 5,0 Sails and the Fanatic Freewave 95 fully powered up. Still there are no people around so we can enjoy the huge Playground for Freestyle, Slalom and Jumps. We´ll see when the season really gets started and more Windsurfers arrive at the most southern Caribbean Island.

Since some time I´ve been waiting already to finally leave the cold and rainy weather in Germany, spending my time running, biking, skating and in front of my Desktop, just trying to not get sick at all..... after some difficulties with the flights teh time finally has come and I´ll be at my new home very soon and hope the wind, which has blown over and through El Yaque during the past four months, will stay and provide us with some funny days on the water.. The fact that it might be another El Nino Season would be great if true.. El Nino is always good for highwinds without any breaks.... so after one , two not so great Seasons we would be more than happy about it..... Back to the Roots....

Couple of days before leaving cold and now also rainy and colourful Germany, finally I managed to go back in time... back to the Roots when I was travelling Germany as Ice Hockey Referee in the DEL. So I got the Chance to see THE Derby between the two big Teams Düsseldorf and Cologne. It was my second time in the ISS Dome in Düsseldorf, the first time I was a little disappointed with the Stadium half full and remembering the old Brehmstrasse Stadium with his unique atmosphere. This time the Dome was full as well and also the creativity of the Düsseldorf Supporters was back, of course when it´s against their worse enemy of Cologne... It was nice this time and great to be close to the frozen water.. Hopefully I get the chance more often next year.... And now it´s really time to pack and fly into te sun for the winter..... lovely !!!

cold breeze in my face

Still I´m sitting in Germany, planning my Tour in 2010 and my Winter in El yaque, Venezuela. But to not sit in front of my Desktop 24 hours a day, I got back onto my Mountainbike and into my Running Shoes. A couple of hours per day at fresh air, getting energy back in my muscles and it feels great. Only the really fresh breeze, which yesterday seemed to blow into my face during the entire two and half hours Bikeride, could feel a bit better... It´s getting winter indeed and the change to 32 degrees with around 85% humidity next week will be pretty tough... But I´m sure I´ll love it. So long I try to enjoy the cold but sunny weather....

Soon I´ll be leaving to warmer regions, but first I really enjoy the german autumn... the colourful nature, cold with blue skies and the first snow has also already fallen. For me that´s exactly the time when I like to be outside, running, biking, taking pictures... Even if I feel all my muscles after some long runs, but still it´s a very nice feeling and the air feels just fresh.... My last windsurfing Sessions on a small Lake close to my home has been really good as well, 5,0 full power with my 95 Freewave Board, just a little cold.. I´m not used to 12 degree Airtemperature and maybe also 12 degree Watertemperature Windsurfing anymore.... But once I got rid of the cramps in my arms and legs I could also enjoy that session...

After some sailing sessions last week with really low temperatures, freezing cold winds and some hot drinks afterwards as warm up.. the temperatures went up and down during this week... after a nice bike ride yesterday still with shirt and shorts, today i´m sitting inside, wearing jacket and long trousers... still no gloves though :-)

sun, cold, worldcup and elections.....

It might be the last really sunny day for a while in Germany, which might be good for the actual PWA Worldcup at Sylt, where the wind for a Wave and Freestyle spectacle uses to arrive with the bad weather and mostly with much lower airtemperatures. But since the Worldcup goes on for another seven days, it´s good to enjoy the sun and fresh air once again. Most people are already on the streets for the big elections in Germany today, the event which rules Germany today... But still I´m sitting in front of my screen checking the PWA Live Ticker to see if something happens at Sylt.... It is the last Worldcup Event of the year and the Wave and Freestyle Worldchampions will be crowned there... In Slalom everything is clear with Antoine Albeau as Worldchampion and the rest only fighting for the remaining places on the podium....... I remember last years Hardcore Action with a huge storm passing through, providing massive Waves and 50 knots wind and some semifinals and finals for the Windsurfing history book... Let´s see what´s gonna happen there this year....

For one week I´m sitting in Germany now, after seven days, sitting in front of my screen, typing thousands of words and letters, watching the rain through the windows, finally the sun came back and i decided to use the day to finally go again for a Football match of my home club Borussia Mönchengladbach and his new Star, venezuelan Juan Arango.... Unluckily I had to keep my Tele lens for my Camera outside and wasn´t able to provide you with some Images... I felt even more unlucky when Arango shot the first goal right in front of my eyes.... The atmosphere in the new Borussia Park Stadium was great and of course even better after the 2 - 0 .... But at this time there were still 60 Minutes to go... enough for the opponent of Hoffenheim to score 4 goals and take victory... anyway it´s been a very good day.... let´s see when I get the next chance to watch a game in Borussia Park

After one week of coaching at the BIG BLUE Windsurf Center, a Fanatic Boarderscenter now I got one day to pack and relax and check the web at the very nice Beach Office, sitting in front of the Surfers Bar not even 10 metres from the Sea. Nice !!

The past week has been even nicer, to our very multicultural Windsurflabor Clinic Improve & Move people came from Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Israel and the US, and we really had a very great time together on the water and off the water at some very nice dinners in the Hotel Oceanis Restaurants and the Turkish Village close to KOS City.

After living a couple of years living in the Caribbean now and travelling to the Canaries and warm water Spots in the summer, it became really about time to get into my car and just drive up north, really north, to Klitmöller in Denmark. I never forgot the great days I had in the beginning of my Windsurfing history and I always wanted to go back to one of the best Wave Spots with great ambience and landscapes in Europe. After surviving the long long ride, it seems like german highways are all under construction at the moment and so I needed almost two days instead of normal ten hours to get to Denmark, I took a deep breath when I passed the entrance of Klitmöller. Unluckily it was sunny and the wind easterly. Not the best Conditions for some good wavesailing days. 6 days I had to wait to finally take my new Newwave 76 to the water. The Board loved the conditions, and so did i, even some much better could be possible at this Spot, but for me it was the last day and with a teardrop in my eye at the next morning I had to leave Klitmöller Beach, were at this morning 3 - 4 meter waves were rolling in and the wind was blowing for the 4,2... sometimes it is very hard to follow your timetables.... but I had no choice, my next Clinic in Greece, at the Island of KOS was waiting.... But for sure it won´t last soo long anymore to be back here, up north....

German Summer...

Almost a week since I´ve arrived in Germany from Fuerteventura, and so far the biggest difference is the not existing sand and sea, but the temperatures and sun have been more likely. Sunny every day with Airtemperatures passing the 30 each day. At the moment I´m sitting at 34 degrees and it´s still getting warmer and the people are starting to go crazy., hiding in the shades, trying to get as many fans in their offices as possible and wait for the day to pass by quickly to finally go for a huge ice cold beer in the Biergartens, germans famous outdoor Beer Bars. Yep, sometimes it´s good to be used to the hot weather. But already tomorrow we will travel to colder and more wet weather for sure. For one week we will visit my ex favourite Spots in Denmark, with klittmöller in the north of Denmark as base.... Actually I really don´t care if it´s gonna be clowdy or rainy, after such a long sunny period I would like to have a nice and drastic change. I just hope it´s gonna be windy as well.... After the Denmark Trip I will get a nice warm up session in Greece anyway.... Kos we come !!!! I´m pretty glad about the year so far, finally I got and get to know some new Spots and Islands and get out of the normal travel rythm I had the past years. Our new Toys, the Fanatic Boards and new North Sails also have arrived, are prepared and also ready for the first rides.... awsome !!!! I will try to keep you all updated, maybe not, because i also hope to spend all day on the water and be too tired for Internet at night :-)

After almost six weeks at sandy and windy Fuerteventura, a succesful Worldcup and Windsurfcamp done, I just arrived in Germany for a week. Relaxing with some homemade food and cakes before leaving to denmark and than Kos Island in Greece for the next Windsurfclinic with the Windsurflabor... there are still places available, you can get all info at the windsurflabor website... would be nice welcome some of you in Greece. But before we will hopefully enjoy the full beauty of Denmark, travelling to Klittmöller and his close Spots. It´s been a very long time now that I haven´t driven all the way up North for some good Sessions at one of my former most liked Spots. But I´m pretty sure that I´ll meet some friends there..... It´s already 5 weeks that I arrived at Fuerteventura. With the PWA Worldcup and our Windsurfcamp at Costa Calma, the time passed by flying, unbelievable that there are only 3 days left before leaving to Germany and than Denmark. Even if we were provided with some great windy days at Costa Calma and Matas Blancas in the past ten days, it´s nice to see the next change and some a bit cooler temperatures, less sand but unluckily also less water..... The windsurf Camp at the Fanatic Funcenter at Costa Calma once again was a really great one, with very nice guests and a great Team plus some extraordinary conditions at the Costa Calma. The Windsurflabor Events as Fanatic and North Windsurf Pro Tour will be back for sure next year again !!

Hot and hot Worldcup at Fuerte 2009 is over

Oh yes, it has been a very hot Competition at Sotavento Beach. First the PWA Freestylers performed a just hot action at their first Double Elimination. Absolut fantastic Level of almost Sailors. Unbelievable how much the Level rises each year. Still it were the Top Riders who fought for the podium places in the end. Gollito Estredo managed to keep his number one status, but was followed very close by Tonky Frans, who really excited the spectators and judges in all his Heats, and Marcilio Browne. With incredible power also Browne catapulted himself once again on the podium. Also the women were on fire. Not only Sara Quita, who realized perfect double Moves, one handed Ponches and huge Airflakas, also both Moreno Twins managed to show Freestyle Skills, japanese Junko Nagoshi showed why she came as number two in the overall rankings to Lanzarote, and Yoli, who sailed and rotated herself with great Moves on third Place and also a third Place tie overall with Junko Nagoshi. Only Nagoshi´s better result in the previous Event made her stand on the third step of the overall podium alone. Sara Quita could be announced once again as Freestyle Worldchampion followed by Daida Moreno.... after only two days of Competition the wind died down completely and instead of 40 knots windspeed we got way more than 40 degrees airtemperature for three days..... only when the ompetition had been called off at the last day, the wind decided to come back..... Still Fuerteventura has been a great Freestyle platform once again and we can hope that it will be also in the next year, with spectacular Freestyle Action.....

Already two days of PWA Freestyle over.....

Already two days and one Double Elimination at the 2009 PWA Freestyle at Fuerteventura are over. It has been pretty windy, most used sails have been the 3,3 and 3,4 from the girls and the guys the 3,7 and 4,0... So two days of high wind and Flatwater Freestyle and Gollito Estredo still dominating the Tour by also winning here so far with some great performances, but also Tonky Frans, Marcilio Browne and Steven van Broekhoven had really really impressive Heats. Actually the Level is so high that two Heats had to be resailed because of ties..... That shows how close all Sailors have come together with their performances. Sara Quita Offringa is still sailing in another Freestyle ladies universe. But also the Moreno Twins seem to have practised some Freestyle in secret. Both Daida and Iballa are sailing brilliant. Only Yoli de Brendt and Nayra Alonso managed to get between the sisters. Today the wind unluckily became pretty shaky around midday and dropped completely, before a very gusty wind version came back in the late afternoon exactly for the remaining Finals. Gollito Estredo 1st, Tonky Frans 2nd and Marcilio Browne 3rd are the men results. Best Slalom ever and start of Freestyle

Pretty depressed I went home at midday yesterday, having broken my windsurf and Foto gear..... But since I just can´t leave the Windsurfing, immediately I started the Live Ticker of the PWA Worldtour Website to check if the wind might improve... It looked that the Salom course was changed and the wind indeed picked up. ok, I packed my stuff again and already on my way on the dirtroad down to Sotavento it was pretty hard to keep the car under control. The wind was hauling, sand flying over the road and far out to sea. When I arrived at the Beach I couldn´t believe the Slalom Action, with the start reach of the Race right in front of the Spectators with 40 knots plus, the guys were speeding over the flying water, massive crashes, great Jibes and unbelievable Speed, right in front of thousand pairs of eyes and speaker Roberto Hofmann responsable for the right atmosphere... It was one of the most exciting Slalom Races ever, that´s for sure. Today will be some more Races before the Freestyle will start tomorrow morning with the first Heats. Could be very interesting in those wind conditions. Unluckily there are already some injured Sailors before the Contest. Antxon Otaegui broke his foot, Anthony Ruenes ripped his ligaments, Phil Soltysiak with some stitches over his eye and some more twisted ankles and thumbs. What a day today at Fuerteventura, same as the wind, shifting up and down, offshore to onshore, zero to fullpower, I felt almost the same, having some nice pictures on my Card today, just before my last camera brakes down. Great, even cleaning my gear every single day, protecting it from sand and water, the electronic didn´t want to survive very long. After loosing my newest Cam just short while ago that way, today my last toy and tool accompanied its newer brother.... and all just one day before the start of the PWA Freestyle.... very very bad timing...... at least i´ll have a good time on the water, at least that´s what I thought... once on the water with my too small waveboard (my Freestyler just broke too ) I felt why all Slaom Heats had been cancelled before. It was almost impossible to sail a single run with steady pressure in the Sail and to go for a controlled move. Let´s see if it´s getting any better tonight to bring my mood up a little.... Would need it for sure....

Pretty strong and offshore wind today at Fuerte, good for Freestyle for the first time at our stay since the water was really flat. Only after the Kite Competition ended for today it became a little dangerous when all the PWA Freestylers who had arrived today and yesterday at Sotavento went out together and started to jump like crazy... I don´t know how no crashes happened, it was just soo close a couple of times.... two more days of Kite before the Windsurf Slalom starts at the 2009 Fuerteventura worldcup, followed by the Freestylers....

Eating sand under the rain at Fuerte

What a day yesterday. Massive black clowds, some rain and flying water and sand, so we had a hard but good time on the water in Sotavento, it was just impossible to not eat sand at the beach. With gusts of 35 - 45 knots the wind hammered along the coast, tough for Freestyle but nice to just sail and jump around at the Skatepark Sotavento. Today is start of the Kite Worldcup and for sure most of the PWA Sailors will come over from Gran Canaria today to get prepared for their Worldcup starting the 22nd of this month. Now it´s already eleven days that we are at Fuerte and it´s still hauling, actually picking up again. Even if the wind has been very very rough and the water for sure not the easiest, today we got a good day and finally we managed to reall do some moves and less crashes.... hopefully it goes on like that, would be very hard for all to perform high class Freestyle Moves during the PWA Worldcup which starts the 27th of July (reports and images you can already see PWA Fuerteventura ) The forecast for the next days is even more wind and some nice Swell. The Kiteboarding Worldcup will start in two days, so pretty tough for the Kite guys and girls too.....

While the guys are ripping it up at the 2009 Pozo Worldcup, I went straight to Fuerteventura this year without the usual Gran Canaria Stoppover and I am fighting with the Flat Choppy water at Sotavento to at least do some Moves per day.... At least the PWA Competitors who have already arrived for the their Training are not crashing much less than I do.... Again the Spot shows why it´s a real hardcore Freestyle Spot, only the best can really perform their high standard Moves. It´ll be exciting again between the 27th of july and the 01st of august. It has been an epic Contest, the 2009 PWA Freestyle Worldcup at Costa Teguise - Lanzarote. Windspeeds around 40 knots and partly over Masthigh Waves, perfect for radical and extreme Freestyle. Gollito Estredo won the Event in fron of Kiri Thode, Antxon Otaegui and Marcilio Browne. Sara Quita dominated the women Contest and won in front of Junko Nagoshi..... It was one of those days where even the Tarifa Locals quit Windsurfing after 20 minutes and I was happy when I survived this day with the 3,4 sail pretty overpowered but good anyway..... now we have two days break before the next strong Levante days.... i´m already looking forward to it and hope this time i will be able to also do some moves different to my jibes the last time... :-) I will keep you updated....

just a couple of days ago i could just have jumped off the plane on my way bac from Morocco, when we were flying straight over Tarifa. So now after a short Stoppover in Germany, I finally arrived again at the south end of Europe... Sunday we will start our Clinic with hopefully some nice windy days..... After some Travel and quite some hours at different airports I am back in Germany for a couple of days, just getting ready for our next Windsurf Event in Tarifa, starting the 07th of june... I could use my time to renew and relaunch the www.windsurflabor.de website... You can find all news and infos now about the Windsurflabor Pro Windsurf Events in Cooperation with Fanatic - North Sails and ION.... between programming I also always keep an eye on what´s happening at the Margarita Wildwinds in El Yaque.... guys like Kevin Pritchard, Peter Volwater, Kiri Thode, Taty Frans, Antxon Otaegui and more have found their way to compete ... so far Volwater leads the Slalom fleed, while Gollito Estredo and Yoli de Brendt have won their Freestyle Single Eliminations....

After spending two days in touristic Essaouira, at least more touristic than i thought it would be, yesterday we spent our first day in Moulay... the small real moroccon village and one of the best Wavespots of the entire coastline. Just perfect for our Wave Special Clinic, and even with no wind and waves yesterday we just enjoyed a great day in Moulay and at the Fanatic Boarderscenter with its small Cafe Reto, on first floor with a great view over the spot.... today the forecast told us we will have our first day ripping out there... we will see .. and report of course...

My journey through the cultures of the world

Sometimes I wake up in the morning, not knowing exactly where i am... I´ve been travelling through some countries and cultures in the past week... from latin style easy going Venezuela to well structured and organized, clean Germany further to Morocco... kind of mixture of third world, luxury hotels and the magic arabic world.... I am still very impressed by all i get to see during my journey... just love it !!! At the moment I am in Essaouira and Moulay... Morocco´s most famous Wave Spot.... waiting for the waves and wind to come... It is already day number three of the first Windsurflabor Wave Special in Cooperation with the Fanatic Boarderscenter, Magic Fun Africa, Fanatic, North Sails, ION and Dwarf 8.... even without wind I like it so far... some surfsessions, theory and excursions done and ready for the next swell and wind........

After some hot and windless days last week, I´ve been sailing my 4,2 and the allwave 72 every day now for.... don´t remember how many days... just great.. unluckily the wind arrived late and I have to leave soon.. but I´m also looking forward to my Travel. First to Moulay for my Wave Special Clinic at the Fanatic Boarderscenter from the 20th til the 25th of May (interetested ?? travel@fanatic-boarderscenter.com ) and than to Tarifa, for the next clinic and to sail a bit in conditions I really like..... After a strange season in El yaque, only in the end i remember why I came and come here each winter... very good windy and our small little wavespots finally just work great !!!

Since I´ve arrived once again to the Caribbean Island of Margarita beginning of decembre, I walked around like in a black and white movie.. endless rainshowers, almost a 100% clowdcover most days and sad watercolours brought a pretty depressive feeling to the people at the Island of Margarita…. Until now… I´m wondering for almost three weeks now who might have dropped the Ilsand into the paint bucket.. suddenly all appears in beautiful and typical powerful colours.. just enjoyable… and for the first time this season I fell like back in the Caribbean and I remember why I came and stayed here…. With the colours and the drought also the termical winds have started their work and I got my first real windsurf days of the season, with my favourite gear for this Spot, the Fanatic Allwave 72 and my North ICE 4,2…. The last weeks just have been good enough to bring the motivation for the next cartibbean season back…. It must be a very good one.. after one of the worst seasons ever….

The past weekend another Windsurf and Kite Contest of the venezuelan Windsurf Tour took Place in El Yaque. The Copa ONA 2009, with Long Distance Slalom Races, Freestyle, best trick Contest and many many Juniors..... The Windsurf Slalom became the main part of the Event with 9 long Distance races.... In all races it came to a showdown between national Champion Alexis Carache and Gollito Estredo, batteling hard for the first place with heavyweight Carache having a little advantage, so he won 7 and Estredo two Races.... In overall Carache 1st , Estredo 2nd..... Gollito Estredo inscribed also in all Kitecompetitions and he managed to win the Kite long distance race..... before he also won the Windsurf Freestyle in front of Cheo Diaz, who performed a Double Forward Loop on Flatwater.... Yoli de Brendt won the women Freestyle and ex women Freestyle Worldchampion Colette Guadagnino got the women Slalom crown.......

Surprise surprise, we were all expecting a typical El Yaque Semana Santa, with a packed Beach, full of Party People, massive car traffic and lots of noise, hard or impossible for any Windsurfer to go on the water.....
2009 was totally different, the beach looked more like during an average sunday at the semana santa week, no trouble for Windsurfers, who could even leave their gear at the beach without worries..... Nice to see El Yaque is going back to the roots.... ;-)

silence before the storm....

SEMANA SANTA.... some magic words.. thousands of party people will invade the little caribbean viallge once again for a couple of days, partying hard and maybe watching twice as much windsurfers flying over the water... the peoplke have not arrived yet... but it is the silence before the storm ?? maybe, the wind has already arrived for the 5,0 and 4,7 metre sails.. and i´m pretty sure we will not need to wait much longer for the crowds to arrive too.... i´ll keep you updated....

jumping between freshwater, saltwater and paintdrops

Busy times... Since the Season in El Yaque hasn´t been too good so far, I tried to occupy myself with some homework, this week, painting the house. unluckily the freshwater falling from the sky, sometimes in pretty compressed form and a little wind, which sprayed the paintdrops into my face and which made me nervous, thinking about a possibility to windsurf, which this season is soemthing really rare. So I feel like jumping between Rain,- Paint and Saltwaterdrops, back and forward..... and still we all hope that the wind will stabilize one day, even if the chance is quite low... and rumors say that some people started to pray for next season....

El Yaque Windsurf Contest

The first El Yaque Open Contest in 2009 just took place the 21st and 22nd of March 2009. Since many international Pro Sailors chose the Island of Margarita as Training Destination once again, a spontaneous Competition was initiated.

It was great to see many new Kids in various categories on the water, sailing and fighting hard around the course, enjoying their new sport, together with their Worldcup Idols from El Yaque. Both days started with the Kids Slalom, followed by the men Slalom with long distance Races.

After some serious fights in the past national Cup Competitions at the Venezuelan Mainland, also this time the battle for the Slalom crown became a duel between Gollito Estredo and the national Slalom Champion Alexis Carache. Only with the very first race and a pretty impressive tactic, Gollito Estredo managed to take victory, with Alexis Carache in second and Alexis Zabala in third.

The Freestyle Contest became a pretty high Level one. Not only because the presence of Gollito Estredo, Anthony Ruenes, Phil Soltysiak and Co. . Some of the british Instructors like Max Rowe and John Newby, german Instructor Marco Wedele and ex Worldcup Riders Alexis Zabala and Douglas Eduardo knew how to impress the crowds and the Judges. John Newby came up with his new Spock Donkey and Anthony Ruenes with no handed Funnels, but it should not be enough to beat Gollito Estredo. One more time he showed why he is the actual Freestyle Worldchampion. With insane radical Moves and even a Pushloop on Flatwater he was just unbeatable. On second place finished Anthony Ruenes and Marco Wedele in third.

For the first time this season also the women Freestyle was held. Some of the feminine Instructors, Local girls and Yoli de Brendt were waiting for their Competition for long time. In pretty gusty winds the girls really did their best. From Oldschool Moves up to New School Tricks. In the end it was Yoli de Brendt who saved her victory ahead of british Nancy Tyree and Michaela Malina from the Czech Republic.

strange weather situation offers new spots....

Life in the Caribbean is different this winter indeed. More rain than usual, much more rain than usual. much less tourists than usual, also the beautiful islands have been effected by the crisis as it seems. the really unusual weather situation in the caribbean for this time of the year effect all hundred percent wind spots, but there is also a good side, very close to the common windsurfbeaches, a lot of new windy places have been discovered. instead of another el yaque only year, we are sailing at a small wavespot, in various lagoons and even in the north of the island of margarita this winter..... bad for all who have to stay at one place, even if the wind seems to have arrived once again and might stay a bit this time.....

travelling from one beautiful caribbean Island to the next, beautiful... even if it´s only a 15 minutes boatride... The next days I´ll spend on blue water at white sandy beaches for some windsurf coaching.. it´s always nice to have a small break in the middle of the season in El Yaque, even if it is pretty windy now.... but so it will at Coche as well... I´ll provide you with some more pictures once i´m back at Isla Margarita....

Sailing punta caneira…

If the wind gets stronger in el Yaque, and the beach full, because of carnaval this time, we move our boards to the Spot of Punta Caneira. Also yesterday we enjoyed the sideonshore wind and wave conditions, with my Allwave 72 and the ICE 4,7...… it´s just sick Jumping there.. unluckily the waves were still a little short for some decent waverides….

Yes, back to turquoise water and wind.. the last two days have been promising, with nice watercolours and wind for 5,0 and this morning it looks even better.... i´m off..... will write more when i´m back from the water... could take a while :-)

Loop week....

Last week we started our Loop Week in El Yaque. Like almost every year the wind should provide us a perfect setup for the first forward Rotations. Unluckily this year the wind didn´t play game and so we extended our Loop weeks to the 14 El Yaque Loop days. There are still two more days to go my first time Loopers are doing really well, even learning some more Planning Moves besides the maybe most wished Jump Move in windsurfing history. In three days I´ll tell you the final result and hopefully show you some really happy faces….

The last two days we could welcome some friends like Rafa Cervero or Anthony Ruenes at Lago del Yaque.... some more Rainshowers and super Flat water, without the slightest gust of wind..... it´s a pretty abnormal season so far... at least today the wind and sun are back.... and once again the windsystem is building up.... hopefully for longer now....
